The Minnesota Wild, in partnership with Hy-Vee, Minnesota Hockey, CCM, Pure Hockey, NHL, and NHLPA, are pleased to announce the return of the Little Wild Learn to Play program for its eighth season. The 2021 Little Wild Learn to Play program will be available for 60 kids at 20 locations across the State of Hockey but that number is subject to change based on guidelines from the Minnesota Department of Health.

The Little Wild program is intended for first-time boys and girls hockey players ages 5-8. Eligible participants must be between the ages of 5-8 as of September 1, 2021. The program is intended for children who have not participated in organized youth hockey programs before. Children who have previously participated in Little Wild are not eligible to participate in the 2021 Little Wild program. Those in violation of this rule will not be allowed to participate and their registration fee will not be refunded.

All participants will receive four one-hour on-ice sessions led by the Minnesota Hockey ADM team and a full set of CCM hockey equipment. Kids who do not have skating experience are strongly encouraged to take skating lessons prior to their first Little Wild on-ice session.

Greetings TAHA Members,

We received updates from the State of Minnesota as to what will be allowed upon the return of youth sports on January 4. That guidance is attached and available on the Dept. of Health website.

Included in the guidance are the following:

  • Games may resume Jan. 14
  • Face coverings are required at all times, including practices and games
  • No spectators are allowed with some exceptions
  • Pod sizes for practice are 25 with two allowed on the rink at the same time.
  • MDH will be releasing additional guidance that will be in effect once games begin.

I have also attached our updated Phase 4 Return to Play Rules & Guidelines as well as our latest Positive Case Guidelines.

Minnesota Hockey is planning to implement Phase 5 of its Return to Play Rules and Guidelines when games begin on January 14. Details on Phase 5 will be released upon further guidance being released by the State of Minnesota.

Coaches will be sending out ice times for practice later this week. Until our COVID plan has been approved by Grand Lake Township, there will be no indoor facilities available for use. Players will need to come dressed in gear. Benches are available outside for players to put on skates if need be. Bench heaters will be utilized for players to warm up during practice. Portable restrooms are located near the warming house and Zamboni shack. Please send your player with their own water bottle for practice.

We are working closely with the township to ensure we can safely use the facilities, as the season moves forward. I appreciate everyone’s patience, understanding, and hard work during this irregular season.

The rinks are currently available for open skating / rink rat use. Please remember helmets are required on all rinks – no exceptions. Get out there and enjoy it.

Go Blackhawks!

Youth Sports - Pause

Posted by Twig Amateur Hockey at Nov 20, 2020 1:55PM PST

Effective today, Friday, November 20th, Twig Amateur Hockey Association will be pausing all competition and practice activities through Friday, December 18th. This is in accordance with the Minnesota Governor’s Emergency Executive Order 20-99.

This is not the news any of us wanted to hear. Hockey provides our youth with a great opportunity to interact with peers and develop skills they will have the rest of their lives. In a year already riddled with setbacks, this may appear as just another COVID related impact on our everyday life. However, it is important that we observe this Executive Order to avoid further spread of the virus in our community.

Hopefully, this pause will be the needed reset for our association to resume play later in the season. There will still be plenty of ice time left for our young athletes to enjoy. Take this opportunity to recharge your “Hockey Batteries”, and get ready for the remainder of this season. As an association, we will be using the time to organize our “Return to Play” policies & procedures. This involves identifying a person to be a COVID related coordinator. The duties for this role would be putting together a COVID protocol, developing a sanitation standard, and contact tracing. If this is something you would be interested in doing, please let me know right away. We will be unable to open our rinks/facilities until this very important piece is in place.

We are still planning to begin responsible ice making efforts here in the near future. With the current weather forecast, it is looking like the weekend after Thanksgiving (Nov 28th & 29th) could potentially be the start of our flooding crews. If we receive the go ahead from the township to start this work, a sign up will be sent out to all members. The flooding crews will be limited to 5 or less people, who will be required to wear masks and remain socially distant from one another.

I appreciate all the time and hard work everyone has put in to make this season a success!
